We chose Hotel Dunas based on TA reviews, price and location. It was a good choice at a good price for San Pedro. The rooms are a bit small, but... read more that was not a big issue. More of a problem was that they were fairly dark, some brighter lights would have come in handy. I preferred to sit out on the patio to read, check emails (great WiFi reception) and enjoy the sunshine, as it was pretty cold inside. It didn't matter at night, though, as the very comfortable beds have electric blankets. In summer it would probably be very nice to sit out in your own little courtyard, but the high walls didn't let much sun in when we were there, so the space was a bit wasted.
The bathroom was also quite tiny, but the shower always had hot water, and that's what was most important for us. And it was clean, and soap and shampoo were provided.
Storage space was a bit limited, but for a few days this was okay.
Breakfast was basic but fine, and you could have a cup of tea and a bite to eat even if you had to leave early to go on a tour. There was always someone friendly at reception, though English was a problem. Still, we managed to get our tickets to Calama airport booked. And we also managed to convey that we would like to store our luggage and get our washing done (CLP2000 per kilo) while we went on a Salar de Uyuni tour.
As long as you know what to expect I think Hotel Dunas is a great base for a stay in San Pedro. I'd happily stay here again were I to return to San Pedro, which I hope I'll have a chance to do, as there is a lot more to see than we had time for.

Located centrally. Wifi worked well in room. Room was clean and decorated with local characters. A patio connected with the room. However, the paper-thin wall made my sleep uncomfortable. Breakfast... read more was basic but ok. The staff at the front desk spoke a little bit English. Be advised that you'd better pay foreign cash. If you pay Chile Peso, you would have to pay 19% tax like Chile citizens. It was unreasonable. Chile law granted the foreign tourists living in Chile less than 60 days to exempt from hotel tax regardless of payment currency. And if you pay by credit card, you would pay more 20%. More unreasonable.

This hotel is only a 10 minutes stroll from the "main drag" and is in a quieter area of the town. The hotel is a "motel" style and and quit... read more rustic but in its own way really nice. Reception is just thru the front gate and is also where you have your breakfast. Check in was easy and very friendly.
We had Room 4 which was a reasonable size with 2 comfy single beds, A wardrobe, safety box, a table and 2 chairs, there was minimal laying out space. The room had an enclosed rear patio and a front shared verandah with a table and chairs.
There is no TV or A/C or coffee/tea makings. The hotel is quiet at night.
The toilet/shower was fine with free toiletries and a hair dryer. Breakfasts were fine, sort of continental style but you could get eggs cooked any style.
I enjoyed my 3 nights here and would definitely return here.

This is a lovely little place with traditionally styled bedrooms. Each room has a table & chairs outside to sit & relax. The hotel is on one of the... read more main streets but far enough up to be quiet. Restaurants are very near as are little mini marts.
Breakfast is continental & very nice. There is a good hairdryer in the bathroom & shampoo & soap. They give you clean towels every day. No one at the hotel speaks English but it’s amazing how you can communicate.

MIL GRACIAS!!!

Stayed in March 2017 for 5 nights. Booked via their web site which is really top class and very informative.
The hotel is situated one block from the main street... read more which gives access to busy part but also provides much needed privacy - this is a party town.
The rooms/bathroom were spotlessly clean and were serviced every day with fresh towels etc. The room size was more than adequate with an interesting little courtyard attached.
The design/architecture theme of the hotel fits well into the desert environment where San Pedro is located.
The web site also allows you to book day excursions to visit the surrounding attractions which is why you are in San Pedro. We took advantage of this option which to us, was better than shopping around the many tour operators in town. It also gave us confidence that if booked via the hotel - it would happen. We were pleased with the result.
There is no air-conditioning which means it could be hot in summer during the day and cold in winter during the evening but in March it was not needed.
Wifi is free and strength is good quality in the rooms.
Breakfast is basic - eggs, bread, butter and jam - but more than adequate.
Reception was extremely helpful and friendly even though English was very basic.
In summary Dunas Hotel represents good value for money in a very expensive town.
I would recommend this hotel.

A nice clean and comfortable hotel a few streets back from the centre of town but as the town is small walking everywhere was very easy. The room was a... read more good size but a bit cold initially until we let the sun's warmth in. It has very thick walls which will keep it cool in summer & I assume, warm in winter but you would need a heater. The staff were friendly and provided an adequate breakfast.
