Hotel Dunas is a good functional hotel, no frills, but provides exactly what we needed - hot showers, clean room, good bed, regular breakfast and importantly a good location.

11/23/2017This hotel is only a 10 minutes stroll from the "main drag" and is in a quieter area of the town. The hotel is a "motel" style and and quit... read more rustic but in its own way really nice. Reception is just thru the front gate and is also where you have your breakfast. Check in was easy and very friendly.
We had Room 4 which was a reasonable size with 2 comfy single beds, A wardrobe, safety box, a table and 2 chairs, there was minimal laying out space. The room had an enclosed rear patio and a front shared verandah with a table and chairs.
There is no TV or A/C or coffee/tea makings. The hotel is quiet at night.
The toilet/shower was fine with free toiletries and a hair dryer. Breakfasts were fine, sort of continental style but you could get eggs cooked any style.
I enjoyed my 3 nights here and would definitely return here.
05/04/2018Accueil agréable dans cet hôtel à quelques encablures de la place principale et de la rue commerçante.
Les chambres sont plutôt agréables et propres. Salle de bains correcte. Petit... read more déjeuner perfectible toutefois.

Friendly staff, but very little English spoken---thank goodness for cell phone translations. This quaint motel is close to town (about 4-7 minutes walk). Easy to find for the tour companies.... read more Clean rooms, breakfast included --bread, yogurt, instant coffee, tea--
Rooms are clean and spacious but lighting is minimal after dark. There are lights but very low wattage. Wifi is excellent.
11/10/2018I used bookings.com to book our room for 3 nights. The hotel was kind enough to let us store our bags on the day we checked in and the day... read more we checked out so we could maximize our time to explore. They even had someone at the front desk at 4am so we could check out before our geyser tour! The room has a little backyard area which was nice at night to sit out and drink a beer. I also noticed that we were close to the center of the town but not too close where we could hear the nightlife.
09/30/2017I’m posting the following for my friend who stayed at hotel Dunas with me in August:
First of all I loved my stay at Dunas hotel. Nice&quiet location... read more and yet close to all the bustling night life. Nice, clean and tidy rooms. And the front "yard" with benches, were you can sit and enjoy the cooling afternoon. 🙂
But here is why I must write this post: I went for a walk out of the San Pedro city center in the afternoon and managed to get tangeld up in a rather dramatic and unusual way. I was in REAL danger and got myself in BIG trouble. Without knowing any Spanish and with a acute need for help, I could not have had more luck with the staff at the hotel. As soon as they learned about my trouble from my friend who was in the hotel at the time, they immediately went out of their way to help me. The hotel owner sent a car with my friend to find me, argued me out of the situation and helped me in all possible ways. Afterwards they made sure I got all the necessary medical treatment I needed. So friendly, so forthcoming, so warm and so caring! Even a mum could not have done more for her son!
Five star for the facilities and SIX stars for service and kindness!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
09/05/2019Located centrally. Wifi worked well in room. Room was clean and decorated with local characters. A patio connected with the room. However, the paper-thin wall made my sleep uncomfortable. Breakfast... read more was basic but ok. The staff at the front desk spoke a little bit English. Be advised that you'd better pay foreign cash. If you pay Chile Peso, you would have to pay 19% tax like Chile citizens. It was unreasonable. Chile law granted the foreign tourists living in Chile less than 60 days to exempt from hotel tax regardless of payment currency. And if you pay by credit card, you would pay more 20%. More unreasonable.
