I’m posting the following for my friend who stayed at hotel Dunas with me in August:

First of all I loved my stay at Dunas hotel. Nice&quiet location... read more and yet close to all the bustling night life. Nice, clean and tidy rooms. And the front "yard" with benches, were you can sit and enjoy the cooling afternoon. 🙂

But here is why I must write this post: I went for a walk out of the San Pedro city center in the afternoon and managed to get tangeld up in a rather dramatic and unusual way. I was in REAL danger and got myself in BIG trouble. Without knowing any Spanish and with a acute need for help, I could not have had more luck with the staff at the hotel. As soon as they learned about my trouble from my friend who was in the hotel at the time, they immediately went out of their way to help me. The hotel owner sent a car with my friend to find me, argued me out of the situation and helped me in all possible ways. Afterwards they made sure I got all the necessary medical treatment I needed. So friendly, so forthcoming, so warm and so caring! Even a mum could not have done more for her son!

Five star for the facilities and SIX stars for service and kindness!

Also they offer parking which is an added benefit in this town.

It has very thick walls which will keep it cool in summer & I assume, warm in winter but you would need a heater. The staff were friendly and provided an adequate breakfast.

  Located centrally. Wifi worked well in room. Room was clean and decorated with local characters. A patio connected with the room. However, the paper-thin wall made my sleep uncomfortable. Breakfast... read more was basic but ok. The staff at the front desk spoke a little bit English. Be advised that you'd better pay foreign cash. If you pay Chile Peso, you would have to pay 19% tax like Chile citizens. It was unreasonable. Chile law granted the foreign tourists living in Chile less than 60 days to exempt from hotel tax regardless of payment currency. And if you pay by credit card, you would pay more 20%. More unreasonable.

The hotel is situated one block from the main street... read more which gives access to busy part but also provides much needed privacy - this is a party town.
The rooms/bathroom were spotlessly clean and were serviced every day with fresh towels etc. The room size was more than adequate with an interesting little courtyard attached.
The design/architecture theme of the hotel fits well into the desert environment where San Pedro is located.
The web site also allows you to book day excursions to visit the surrounding attractions which is why you are in San Pedro. We took advantage of this option which to us, was better than shopping around the many tour operators in town. It also gave us confidence that if booked via the hotel - it would happen. We were pleased with the result.
There is no air-conditioning which means it could be hot in summer during the day and cold in winter during the evening but in March it was not needed.
Wifi is free and strength is good quality in the rooms.
Breakfast is basic - eggs, bread,butter and jam - but more than adequate.
Reception was extremely helpful and friendly even though English was very basic.
In summary Dunas Hotel represents good value for money in a very expensive town.
I would recommend this hotel.

Nos devolvimos a buscar nuestras cosas unas horas antes de que el transfer para el aeropuerto nos pasara a buscar y la recepcionista fue demasiado simpática, nos ofreció juguito y conversamos largo rato... MIL GRACIAS!!!
